I Had a Dream

I had a dream that we were inside a giant room filled with panels, boards, buttons and lights. The room belonged to a white spaceship. The ship was making its way through an infinite black space. There were many of us, each representing a different country on the globe. I knew that from the different looks, variety of faces, different skin colors, different hair types, body shapes, and languages they spoke. We could not communicate with each other because no one understood each other’s language. We did not know where we were going or what brought us together on this ship. We were heading into the unknown. Yes, we were being taken into the unknown. We had no sense of time. It seemed to move slowly, very slowly.  I could tell from the thousands of stars that were passing by the glass window like white milky striped lines.

Our hearts felt heavy; very heavy. No future seemed to await us. Injections had already been prepared for us and placed on a white board, in case we wanted to put ourselves down for a long eternal sleep. The door was left unsecured. A heavy triple glass door that led to the deadly engine. A tall man opened the door and went inside the hallway towards the engine room. A giant blaze of fire filled the hallway. In less than a second, his body disappeared. He vanished in the blast of orange light. He left us with a wish to die. To follow him and disappear immediately without suffering or feeling any pain. Yes. Death became the wish of many. Death became the only way to guarantee everyone peace and relief. We wished to live in peace and tranquility. But this wish had become impossible now. I looked through a small oval window. It was dark outside. I saw different things floating in the darkness of eternity: a pair of shoes, a teddy bear, sunglasses, a red school bag, a while pillow, a notebook, an apple, a photo frame, a needle, a sheet of pills, a face mask. Many face masks.
